Dedication

As I prepare to officially launch this blog on November 1, I wanted to first dedicate it to my grandmother, Doris (1907-2000), who tirelessly and lovingly prepared each and every one of the recipes that will be shared here in the coming months. Some were hits, others not so much for our taste, but she tried them anyway and never got discouraged if she heard any "groans." Rather, she would remind us to always be thankful, even when the food wasn't that good--at least there was something on the table.

Because she experienced The Great Depression, she always looked for grocery bargains, clipped coupons, stocked her pantry when things were on sale, used up leftovers, and went without if she had to pay full price. A substitute would have to do.

Crock-Pot 3060-W 6-Quart Round Slow Cooker, WhiteAs she got older, she liked her Crockpot and used it a lot.  She made the most delicious chicken noodle soup in it that I have never been able to replicate. That one will go on record as one of her "trade secrets," I guess.

Holidays and other events were always memorable and delicious without fail. Her turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, vegetable casseroles, and pies were legendary! Every dish was made from scratch and she never used preservative- and sodium-filled instant cook products. What she couldn't find in a recipe, she "concocted" using her ingenuity.

She didn't limit her cooking talent to family though. If someone needed cheer or help, she wouldn't hesitate to share something delicious with them without any concern about getting credit or even a thank you. She was just happy to give.

It's been over ten years since her passing and not a day goes by that I don't think about her, wishing she was here to share some joy or tears. This blog is a loving tribute to her. Of course, if she were here she would dismiss these compliments and would unequivocally say--to God be the glory!
